A medium-sized sheet metal manufacturer and a digital company. This doesn't fit together? In fact it does, and very well so. GS Metaal and AXOOM are the best example. Jan van de Maat and Arnold Hofmeijer wanted to digitize their company - in the most uncomplicated and comprehensive way. So the two Dutchmen were looking for the right partner. And they discovered AXOOM.

Two years ago, they started their journey together with an unknown destination. "It was and still is an adventure", says Jan van de Maat. "Digitalization doesn't work by snapping your fingers, it's a process", adds Daniel Gottschalck from AXOOM. He and many other AXOOM colleagues are working closely with GS Metaal to guide them on their journey to modern production. It's not just about machine networking and better connectivity: They built the first showroom that is located at a customer's site. On the following pages, you'll experience what that means. And how AXOOM supports the Dutch duo.

AXOOM mit GS Metaal

One of AXOOM's major achievements at GS Metaal was and is consultancy for implementing the digital transformation.
With the help of lean management methods and various reorganizations, the production was able to be structured much more efficiently. The AXOOM consultants proceeded according to their proven agenda: In four steps, they accompany customers to success and start right where the customer is in their digitization process. And this is precisely the approach that AXOOM offered GS Metaal:

The two streams to success

At GS Metaal in Vriezenveen, AXOOM is working on two projects simultaneously: The first one is the digitization and optimization of the production facility and the second is the creation of a unique Experience Center.

The partners are in pursuit of a common goal: Work at GS Metaal is to be digital, networked and innovative. The medium-sized company is the perfect example of why Industry 4.0 is not just for big companies. In order to drive progress, the team has taken extensive action. First of all, it was important to introduce a complete manufacturing execution system that reduces the complexity for employees.

GS Metaal has chosen XETICS LEAN, made by an AXOOM partner, which is now the single source of information in production. All employees can rely on the data of the software at all times and thus no longer need any printed work instructions or overviews.

With new workflows, Jan and Arnold can improve the shop floor processes. This is how GS Metaal manages to increase productivity - while maintaining the same number of employees.

"Machines can become much faster through engineering. But software can make all production processes faster by networking multiple machines. The goal is to use as little paper as possible. This allows us to achieve higher process speeds, making everything from order entry to delivery easier and faster for both the customer and the producer."

Daniel Gottschalck, AXOOM

"We take the data that already exists from the various systems and distribute it to the machines and tools that need it. Our goal is to always deliver the right information at the right time to the right machine or the right user. This allows us to increase transparency, create better analyzes and standardize production processes. AXOOM stays in the background and can be docked to existing systems."

"We software developers have been working in the background to ensure that the different production systems work together. With GS Metaal we've found a partner who likes to try new things and always wants to find the best solution."
Andreas Frey, Head of Software Development Process Integration

"What impresses me most at GS Metaal is the huge enthusiasm that Jan and Arnold display. We inspire each other with good ideas - and that also affects the employees. All of the 40 or so employees know now what digitization is and that they don't need to be afraid of it, because we move forward step by step and it makes everyday life easier."
Elisabeth Neugebauer, Customer Manager at AXOOM

"We had detailed requirements, for example: Increasing productivity and production capacity - without changing the number of employees. And also taking the production planning off the shoulders  of a single person and shift the complexity into a software solution. Thanks to clear goals, we were also able to deliver clear results together with XETICS."
Tobias Ruhland, Consultant Smart Factory at AXOOM

Into the future with AXOOM

Jan and Arnold are convinced that AXOOM is the right partner for the modernization of their company. That's why, in addition to the further expansion of the networking solutions, there is another joint project in the works: An Experience Center where the companies work together to develop, test and showcase what production will look like in the future.
